this may sound really silly, but I wrote this list to myself a few months ago and did all the stuff and I actually am in a way better place now because of it. wow. you guys. I have experienced so many emotions since last spring and felt human for the first time in years and I’m reminding myself of this list to make sure I stay alive through winter.

parenting tip: talk to your kids about mental illness. tell them they might have a hard time. tell them they can ask for therapy and medication. tell them they aren’t alone. tell them if your family has a history of mental illnesses and which ones. just fucking talk to your kids and be there for them.

AAYYYOOOO! super important. my mom waited until AFTER I had my big ol’ breakdown (after years of depression) to be like, “oh yeah, your great grandfather killed himself, your grandmother has bipolar disorder, and oh, oh, uh, I was committed as a harm to myself.” it really helps to name these feelings and issues so that kids don’t feel so isolated by the way they feel.
